My experience as an English Language Assistant has developed a passion and personal commitment to three things: fostering a positive learning environment for students of various ages and backgrounds, maximising individual student performance and developing student interest in English language and English and American culture.
In my most recent position in Spain, I developed highly effective lesson plans and motivational exercises that promoted interest and knowledge retention. Teaching such a broad spectrum of ages and abilities, I gained the ability to tailor each of my lesson plans and activities to the class I am working with. I believe each student should be treated as an individual and, as such, each lesson should be tailored to suit the class in question in order for them to reach their maximum learning potential.

I've been teaching English for four years and have worked in the UK, Japan and now South Korea. I enjoy getting to meet and teach students from all walks of life and am fascinated by the stories they tell. Education doesn't have to be about sitting at a desk and taking endless notes; I think that lessons can be fun and informative and that they should be a collaboration between teacher and student. For this reason I am always open to hearing my student's suggestions and will always try my best to help you meet your needs. I look forward to teaching you!

As an author of three books and a fifth-year English language teacher in Korea, I take pride in helping students to express themselves comfortably and confidently in English. Through creative and challenging lessons, I aim to guide students toward building both a healthy vocabulary and a working understanding of grammatical structures, tools which will help them succeed as speakers, readers, and writers. I believe that language gives us all the power to shape and reshape our lived experiences, and I hope that we can build many experiences together.

I have taught adults of all ages from college students to retirees. My approach is similar towards everyone in the sense that I take an interest in who my students are as people and try to use that information to get my students to better explain their opinions in English. My hope is that by pushing you, I can make you more comfortable at communicating. Through this process I have naturally created many strong bonds with my students as we have discussed many aspects of life.

As a fellow language learner, I can relate to the struggle as well as appreciate the sense of accomplishment when acquiring a new language. During my studies of foreign languages, I began to develop a deep interest in the complexities and similarities found in languages, leading me into the study of linguistics. This interest developed into the love of both acquiring languages and teaching others effective language learning skills.

I¡¯m from the United States, having lived mostly in Chicago. I initially arrived in Korea eight years ago to learn the Korean language and culture, then decided to stay after realizing how fulfilling it is to teach English to Korean students. I believe in paying attention to students as individuals, learning about and from the students as much as they learn from me. I have a diverse range of interests, from playing and watching sports (Go Cubs!) to analyzing cinema and taking portrait photography. And of course, I have a deep love of literature and like nothing more than being able to enjoy a good book on a lazy Sunday.

I have over 12 years of teaching experience (Business, Economics & English) across a number of cultures.
A continual thirst for knowledge and understanding of business led me to complete an undergraduate honors degree in Business & Marketing. My desire to impart my knowledge and love of learning led to completion of the Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Business & Economics. My experience teaching across the curriculum in Key Stage 4 (KS4) has widened my understanding of progression in these subjects, and the importance of relational understanding to support future learning.
ÀÚ±â¼Ò°³
My ethos for the classroom strongly encourages learners to express their ideas and suggestions as I believe it is extremely important for them to have control over their learning. It is important to create an atmosphere which encourages learners to ask questions, and I believe students learn best through first-hand experiences and stimulating environments, including the appropriate use of the outside environment. At the start of each topic, I ask open-ended questions to allow me to gauge what they already know, enabling me to plan the areas of learning to be developed. As a reflective practitioner, I regularly evaluate lessons to analyze improvement, progress and achievement. Reflection on lesson plans and observations help to identify misconceptions and allow me to adapt my teaching strategies and plans for future lessons. Using the Assessment for Learning (AfL) cycle, I have become more aware of the importance of observation and the role it has in gaining greater understanding of learning.
